Amy Zalman is the CEO and President of the World Future Society, the world’s oldest and largest membership organization dedicated to igniting the exchange of ideas among laypeople and experts. She is the third leader of the organization since its founding in 1966. As CEO, Dr. Zalman will develop and implement a transformational strategy to maintain the Society’s original mission as a neutral clearinghouse for the exchange of ideas about the future, while advancing it relevance as a global network of people, resources, information, and activities that advance the world’s best ideas for creating desirable futures.
Previously, she served as the Department of Defense Information Integration Chair and Professor of National Security at the National War College in Washington DC. From 2007 – 2012, Amy worked at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC, now Leidos), a Washington DC-based science and technology firm, where she developed new market strategies and basic research projects in the government strategic communications sector.
Her briefings and talks include US Congress, USSOCOM Joint Special Operations University advanced irregular warfare courses, DoD Highlands Forums, the Marine Corps Public Affairs Leadership Conference, the Heritage Foundation, TEDx Georgetown, NATO courses and seminars in Turkey, Azerbaijan and Latvia, the National Institutes of Health, the EastWest Institute Worldwide Security Conference, the International Studies Association, and others.
She is the founder of Strategic Narrative (http://strategic-narrative.net), which helps governments and the private sector use insights from storytelling to guide strategy and communications. Dr. Zalman serves on the steering committee of the National Defense University Foresight Initiative, the Board of Directors of the Council on Emerging National Security Affairs, the Influence Advisory Panel, the Senior Information Operations Advisory Council and the Public Diplomacy Council, and is a professional member of the World Future Society, as well as a former research fellow at the EastWest Institute and former Fulbright scholar. She holds a Ph.D. in Middle Eastern Studies from New York University, a Masters Degree of Fine Arts from Cornell University and a Bachelors Degree from Columbia University. She is proficient in Arabic and Hebrew.
